Ice Age Fossils State Park Environmental Assessment

BEC conducted a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance pedestrian survey of the 320-acre proposed newly designated Ice Age Fossils State Park north of Las Vegas in accordance with current U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) protocols. Following the survey, BEC developed a preliminary draft Environmental Assessment (EA) based on National Park Service and NEPA standards for EAs, incorporating observed site conditions, readily available information for the site, and other information/reports provided by Nevada Division of State Parks (NDSP). BEC maintained frequent communication with NDSP to ensure a comprehensive and realistic EA was drafted while the project was being developed. Completion of the EA required not only familiarity with federal NEPA standards, but also National Park Service EA requirements. BEC worked closely with the new NDSP project manager to ensure the final deliverables meet NDSP and the planned park infrastructure needs.
